How to Choose the Best Quality Lighting Fixtures: Top 3 Tips

FacebooktwitterpinterestlinkedinmailA lighting fixture has the power to accessorize a room. Like “architectural jewelry”, lighting designer Randall Whitehead describes, lighting can “dress up or dress down the look”. Now that you know this, selecting a finish for your lighting fixture can be the first step to creating a customized ambiance for your residential or commercial space.   Tip 1: Finishes  If you’re buying fixtures that have lines or pieces coming together like squares, circles, or any other shape, keep in mind that the connection between lines should be seamless and precise.
  • The finish of the fixture should be accurate, it should resemble the one that shows on the product image. The materials used for the finish should feel durable, with no signs that it’ll peel off, with no bumps, unless intentional or part of the design.
  • The canopy should have precise edges, allowing it to sit right on the ceiling without space unless the surface has bumps or texture.
  • Wirings are important. You don’t want to buy a beautiful centerpiece chandelier and have bulky wiring going into the ceiling. Some fixtures don’t have any visible electric wires. For example, at Vonn, all the electric connections and cables run through the suspension cables that hold the fixture up. Making it visually aesthetic.
Tip 2: Technology  When it comes to light, you want to pay close attention to what you need and what to expect from the fixture. Choose a color temperature that works best with your space, for example, for warmer and inviting rooms you can choose from 3000 Kelvins to 4000 Kelvins. You should also choose a fixture that has a Color Rendering Index of 90. CRI is the measurement of how accurate colors look under a light source compared with sunlight. When it comes to durability, you want to make sure that you’re choosing the right one. LED lighting is the most energy-efficient light and is impressively durable. Some LEDs can last up to 20 years without needing replacements or breaking down. LEDs contain less hazardous materials. For example, they don’t contain mercury which is often found in conventional lighting, making LEDs safer while offering the best lighting experience possible.  Also, keep in mind the actual temperature of a room, conventional lighting usually makes the room feel warm. With LEDs, you take this worry away. LED technology doesn’t emit heat, meaning that no matter how long your lights are on, they won’t get hot, and they won’t reflect heat on your space.    Tip 3: Efficiency  Choosing the right light fixture can reduce the amount of energy used to light a space, this is achieved by using a more efficient lighting technology such as LED.  LEDs have been around for several decades, however, we now see them in more spaces. In the last few years LED light fixtures have been proven to use 75-80 percent less electricity than incandescent bulbs.  A major drawback on the majority of the lighting system available in years past is the prohibitive replacement cost of replacement bulbs and maintenance. However, LED technology completely takes away this worry for the customer, for LED fixtures that are based on LED technology that have a lifespan almost twenty times that of conventional lighting fixtures. This gives any home or business owner a cutting edge in terms of maintenance and replacement costs because of their long lasting design and functionality.
